My Reasons for Writing

I must write. I absolutely must. For,

How do I know what I think until I see what I say?
-E.M. Forster

It is how I think. It is how I understand and relate with the worlds around me. With a little one under my feet all the time, however, it is difficult to write as much or as well or as often as I want to, so this is an outlet for me. It is not even a shadow of what I want to write, because I have a few novels I’ve started, but not finished. This is okay for now; shepherding and discipling my little one is my job, and he deserves the best of me. He does not deserve to be corralled in playpens and whatnot while I selfishly pursue my dream of writing. There is time. Now is not the time.

But more than my personal need for writing in general, I also write for you. I write for family and friends who are interested in what’s going on in our lives. I write for Christians that they may be encouraged to seek God more deeply. I write for non-Christians that they may see more of who Jesus Christ is and of how He is weaving a story of glory in my life.

…what we have seen and heard we proclaim to you also, so that you too may have fellowship with us; and indeed our fellowship is with the Father, and with His Son Jesus Christ. These things we write, so that our joy may be made complete.
-1 John 1:3-4

It is for you, but it’s ultimately for Him. May we have complete joy in fellowship with Him.
